Learning to embrace the artist within ...

Art for me started when I was very young. The walls were my first canvases, much to my mother's frustration. In grade school, I camped out at the artist station, churning out picture after picture using crayons on an old heated griddle. Personal creations covered my walls all the way through high school. Art was my intended life's path.

Then college came and with it the pressing issues of life. Little by little, the artist within me took a back seat to the necessities of food, clothing and shelter. While I never totally lost sight of my artistic side, over the years, art became the hobby I longed to partake of, but only occasionally found time for.

And then ... I planted a garden. 

It was an immense undertaking – trading in large portions of my back yard for fruit trees, flowers and vegetables. I thought I was simply growing food but, unbeknownst to me, that garden was reawakening a part of me I'd long-silenced.  And somewhere amongst the researching, planning and planting, that piece of me I'd set aside as non-essential, once again fought its way to the surface. 

AudreyART.shop is the result of that dormant artist seizing it's opportunity to raise up and make her voice known.  It started with bottles. Being a wine lover, i had an abundance of them, and so they became my new canvases.  Then came birdhouse mosaics, eventually landing on what is now my Mixed Media, Assemblage styled pieces.  As I continued to look for ways to repurpose glass bottles, jars and other non-conventional substrates, I branched out into hummingbird feeders, a variety of vases and storage containers, and most recently my bottle chimes/suncatchers. 

While I still love canvas art,  I'm drawn to the concept of creating art pieces that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional, using repurposed materials as often as possible.  It's a journey that continues as I learn new techniques and evolve in my artistic expression.
